Eclipse Solar

Total Solar Eclipse: A Spectacular Celestial Event

What is a Total Solar Eclipse?

A total solar eclipse is an astronomical phenomenon that occurs when the Moon aligns itself directly between the Earth and the Sun, completely blocking the Sun's light from reaching the Earth's surface. This alignment creates a shadow path that sweeps across the planet, resulting in a mesmerizing display of darkness and cosmic wonder.

How it Works

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's umbra, or central and darkest part of its shadow, falls on the Earth. The conditions for this to happen are specific: the Moon must be at its closest point to the Earth and the Sun must be at its furthest point. Additionally, the Moon's orbit must be slightly tilted so that it can overlap with the Earth's path.
